Greens release plan for giant boost to science and research

The Australian Greens want to put Australia on a path to spending 4% of GDP on science and research by 2030.

Announcing the policy at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in the electorate of Melbourne, Greens Leader Senator Richard Di Natale and Science and Industry spokesperson Adam Bandt MP said the policy would make Australia a world leader in investment in research and development.

Innovation Statement welcome, but not enough to replace massive research cuts

The Greens broadly welcome the Turnbull Government’s Innovation Statement, however it does not repair the huge damage done to the science and research and development sectors by the Liberals’ funding cuts in recent years.

Greens Innovation spokesperson Senator Nick McKim said: “The focus on innovation and the attached funding are welcome, but it does not come close make up for the Liberals’ massive cuts to science, higher education and research and development.”

Richard on ABC PM talking about the Pharmacy Guild's 'coke and fries' endorsements

Richard appeared on ABC PM yesterday, talking about the Pharmacy Guild of Australia's decision to withdraw their endorsement deal with Blackmores.

Richard welcomed the news, but said that it was disappointing that the Pharmacy Guild only withdrew the endorsement arrangement because of public pressure, and not because it was bad for the patient-pharmacist relationship.
