Denticare for Kids

The story so far...
The Greens have made dental health reform a top public health priority. As part of our agreement with Labor to form government, the Greens negotiated the biggest dental health reform in Australia's history; the $5 billion Dental Health Reform Package. To date, as a part of this Package, more than $2 billion has been allocated to a public dental waiting list blitz and grants to improve dental health for rural and indigenous communities.

Also included in this package was $2.7 billion for phase one of Denticare, the Greens' fully costed policy for universal Medicare-funded dentistry.

What is Denticare for Kids?
Good oral health is important for everybody, but it is critically important for kids. That's why the first phase of Denticare is Denticare for Kids: an entitlement to Medicare-funded dentistry offered to 3.4 million Australians between the ages of 2-17 years.

As of 1 January 2014, thanks to the Greens, Denticare for Kids will be available as an entitlement for you to claim at your dentist. The entitlement is for up to $1000 in Medicare-funded public or private dental treatment.

Are my kids eligible for Denticare for Kids?
Children aged 2-17 years in families that receive Family Tax Benefit A (approximately 3.4 million Australian kids) will be eligible to access the scheme. Not eligible? Sign this petition to let Abbott know that Denticare should be for everyone:

How can I access Denticare for Kids?
Denticare for Kids will be administered via the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). All you need to do is speak to your dentist or your dental hospital claim any eligible procedures through this Schedule.

What is covered by the program?
The entitlement covers a range of services including examinations, x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals and extractions.

What is not covered?
Orthodontic or cosmetic dental work, or any services provided in a hospital.

How long will I be able to claim this entitlement for?
The entitlement can be claimed for up to $1,000 per child over a two calendar year period.

What if my children aren't eligible for Denticare for Kids?
The Greens have an affordable, fully costed plan to bring dental care into Medicare for all Australians. Denticare for Kids is phase one, but we want to roll out Denticare to all Australians, starting with those who need it most. Tony Abbott's brutal agenda to cut social services means that programs like Denticare for Kids are always at risk. Make your voice heard by signing our petition to fund Denticare.

Shouldn't Denticare be for everyone?
If you believe that dental care should be part of Medicare, the Greens' Denticare plan is fully costed and ready to go, all it needs is funding. Make your voice heard by signing our petition to fund Denticare.
