Labor Must Walk Away

We’ve got less than 48 hours to convince the Labor Party to walk away from this destructive deal. That’s why we need as many people as possible calling Bill Shorten’s office this afternoon and urging him to walk away from a deal that will destroy our native forests, undermine our entire Renewable Energy Target and fail to create the clean energy solutions that we actually need.

Australian Greens Leader Richard Di Natale was joined by Greens forest spokesperson Senator Janet Rice to respond to the announcement that the Labor party has done a deal with the Abbott Government to brown down the Renewable Energy Target.

RET deal means fewer jobs, less clean energy and more pollution – Greens

Greens Leader Richard Di Natale says the Abbott-Labor deal to reduce the Renewable Energy Target will mean fewer jobs, less clean energy and more pollution from coal.

"Tony Abbott has attacked renewable energy because he thinks coal is good for humanity. It isn't," Greens Leader Richard Di Natale said.

"This deal means more coal. More coal means less jobs in clean energy, more pollution, more cancer and more lung disease.

"For a young kid packing shelves in regional Australia it means less chance of a skilled and well paid job in the clean energy industry.

Senate Inquiry will expose Direct Action sham

The Greens today called for submissions to their inquiry into PM Abbott’s ‘Direct Action’ sham.

“The Greens’ Senate inquiry into Tony Abbott’s ‘Direct Action’ sham will expose it as an ineffective and costly smokescreen for government inaction,” said Acting Greens Leader Senator Richard Di Natale

“Tony Abbott might argue that CO2 is colourless and odourless but this reckless policy is friendless and it stinks. It hasn’t been endorsed by a single credible scientist or economist.

Abbott turns a blind eye while Australia burns.

The Australian Greens have responded to the Bureau of Meteorology's announcement today that 2013 was Australia's warmest year on record, by urging the Abbott Government to face up to the facts on climate change and abandon his reckless actions to unwind climate change laws.

"The facts now speak for themselves. Getting rid of the experts like the Climate Commission and replacing them with crackpot conspiracy theorists like Maurice Newman won't change the fact that climate change is happening and is getting worse," said Acting Greens Leader Sen Richard Di Natale

Abbott rejects science and takes Australia back decades: Greens

Australian Greens lead spokesperson, Senator Richard Di Natale, said today that Tony Abbott’s first days as Prime Minister have taken Australia backwards and shown a complete disregard for the law.

“The first acts of an Abbott government have taken Australia back decades and made us an international embarrassment; one woman in cabinet, no science minister and unwinding climate change action,” said Senator Di Natale

“Even worse, advice from the Clerks of the Senate indicates that Tony Abbott’s demand that the Clean Energy Finance Corporation cease operating is illegal.

No room for climate change denial on business advisory council

Australian Greens spokesperson, Senator Richard Di Natale, said today that Tony Abbott should announce that Maurice Newman will be excluded from the new government’s Business Advisory Council.

“It would be simply untenable for Tony Abbott to appoint an advisor who dismisses climate change as a myth,” said Senator Di Natale.

“Given the enormous challenge climate change represents to the Australian economy and Australian business, somebody who denies it is occurring is hardly qualified to advise the Prime Minister on the challenges ahead.”

Misleading reports about IPCC designed to create a climate of conspiracy

Australian Greens spokesperson, Senator Richard Di Natale, said today that news reports that pre-empt the release of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Assessment were designed to downplay the seriousness of the issue and delay action on climate change.

“News stories claiming that climate scientists have expressed doubts about the seriousness of global warming are ludicrous given that the IPCC reports are essentially a summary of climate science published over preceding years,” said Senator Di Natale.
