I begin by acknowledging the traditional owners of the land that we are meeting on, the Ngunawal people, and I want to pay my respects to their elders past and present. I want to acknowledge that their land was stolen and never ceded, and I look forward to a respectful dialogue in the 45th Parliament to achieve a just settlement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country.

Our Constitution says:

… the Senate shall have equal power with the House of Representatives in respect of all proposed laws.

Greens Leader Richard Di Natale today announced RenewQld – a plan to generate $53 billion in clean-energy investment in the state over the next 15 years.

In Brisbane today to officially launch the Greens Queensland federal election campaign, Senator Di Natale said:

“The Greens clean energy plan for Queensland will create between 3000 and 5500 full-time jobs in design and construction every single year from 2017 across Queensland, especially in regional areas.  

First, let me make an apology. I want to apologise to all the people who are listening on broadcast right now who have had to endure 20 minutes of vitriol, of nonsense from the Labor Party. The Labor Party are intent on frustrating the business of this parliament. We get that we have a Labor Party who are torn and divided over the issue of electoral reform. We understand that. We understand there is a big tussle going on at the moment within the Labor Party—there are those people who support electoral reform and those people who do not. That is a legitimate position to take.

Over the last week, we’ve been listening to feedback from the community - and it’s clear that there’s a lot of misinformation around about the Greens’ agreement on retirement income. So - we've prepared some resources to set the record straight.

The truth is, 171,500 pensioners will be better off because of this change to the pension system, and 50,000 more people will now get a full pension. Those with fewer assets who benefit from this scheme, will be $30 a fortnight better off.
